This was the first time that I have gone to the Pow Wow in Kahnawake and it happened by accident!
My friend and I originally had planned to go out with our large format cameras to Refuge faunique Marguerite-D’Youville which is a nature preserve in Châteauguay, Quebec but we got side tracked from signs that had the words “Pow Wow” written on them as we were heading to our destination. We have always wanted to go but never remembered and when we did, I was always working.
We wanted to be sure about the signs so we drove to a nearby gas station to ask about it and sure enough the Kahnawake Pow Wow was today. We were not that far away from home so we drove back to get cameras that would suit us better for the event. I grabbed my Nikon F100 and three rolls of film, one black and white and two in color.
If I had known how it was set up, I would have paired up with a zoom lens instead of the 50mm prime but regardless of that, I had such a great time.
The Kahnawake Pow Wow is a mesmerizing and beautiful event.
(I am not a fan of taking cell phone images but since I did use film, I knew I would have nothing to show for today so here are a few captures of this magnificent event!)
