Cyanotype – Another Comparison

I wanted to share another comparison with tea and coffee with some old Cyanotype prints.

Test Print #1

Test Print 1

Preparation( mixing ratios):

  • Bleach bath is one tablespoon washing soda in two liters of water.
  • Toning bath is 15 teabags in 3 liters of water, (Orange Pekoe Tea).
  • Rinse bath is cold tap water.

*make sure the washing soda has completely dissolved and that your toning bath has cooled down to about room temperature before you begin the toning process*

What was done:

  1.  immersed print in plain water for about 3 minutes
  2.  immersed print in bleaching bath for 40 seconds
  3.  rinsed print for 1 minute
  4. immersed print in tea bath for 15 minutes
  5. final wash

Result:

Test Print #2

Test Print 2

  • Bleach bath is one tablespoon washing soda in two liters of water.
  • Toning bath is 2 1/2 cups of coffee in 3 liters of water, (Nescafe).
  • Rinse bath is cold tap water.

*make sure the washing soda has completely dissolved and that your toning bath has cooled down to about room temperature before you begin the toning process*

What was done:

  1.  immersed print in plain water for about 3 minutes
  2.  immersed print in bleaching bath for 1 minute
  3. immersed print in coffee bath for 30 minutes
  4. final wash

Result:

I am still searching into other possibilities for toning other than the tea, coffee, wine and tannic acid as they seem to be the only 4 that will not bring me any shipping issues. I guess my next venture will be different coffees and teas.
